Sights to see in  Barbados












































Some interesting sights and places to see in Barbados within easy driving of the vacation apartments, rent a car with the money you save and see Barbados.

A fifty acre forest which is a cross between a botanical garden and a nature trail. Watch out for monkeys at the quieter times of the day. Many stop off points exist with some good views over the East Coast on a clear day. They even give out umbrellas on showery days! A cafe is located at the entrance for refreshments.

Animal Flower Cave, St.Lucy
Located at the northern most point of Barbados in the parish of St. Lucy, the Animal Flower Cave, named for the sea anemones found in the cave pools, there are several openings that look out to sea. Some of these pools are deep enough to swim in.

In the parish of St. Thomas
Throughout the one-hour tour, visitors remain comfortably seated while going through caverns filled with gurgling streams, cascading waterfalls and amazing snow white, pear-shaped stalactites. If you wish to view rock formations first-hand, you're invited to disembark at the Cascade Pool and in the Rotunda Room. A cafe and gift shop are on site.

Mount Hillaby, St. Andrew and Hackleton's Cliff, St. Joseph

Andromeda Botanical Gardens
Located in the parish of St. Joseph these gardens were created by Iris Bannochie and her husband in the 1950's . Andromeda is spread over six acres on a cliff overlooking the Atlantic ocean. There are many species of tropical plants and flowers ranging from palms to orchids, you can spend hours here wandering along the many well kept trails.

Barbados Wildlife Reserve
Located in the parish of St. Peter tours through this wildlife sanctuary are self-guided. The Barbados Primate Research center has imported green monkeys to the area, where they thrive among the magnificent mahogany trees. In this open air zoo you'll also see wild rabbits, deer, tortoises, otters and a wide variety of tropical birds.

Cherry Tree Hill
The central attraction at Cherry Tree Hill is the avenue of old Mahogany trees and a view overlooking the Scotland valley.

Strategically placed on the highland in the Parish of  St. George, this 1818 tower is the finest of a chain of signal stations that once carried news across the island at the approach of an enemy or cargo ships. The signal station was restored and landscaped by the Barbados National Trust and now houses a collection of military memorabilia. There is a statue of a lion that was carved out of a single piece of rock in 1868 by an officer at the signal station.

Sunbury Plantation House
The house and adjacent working sugar plantation have a documented history reaching back over 300 years, to the 1660's. The interior offers a glimpse into domestic plantation life of a bygone era. The house was destroyed by fire in 1995, but is now restored completely to its original condition.

St. Nicholas Abbey
This 330 year old Jacobean mansion is the epitome of county grace and charm. Its history is connected to the settling of South Carolina.

Located in a 19th century British Garrison building, the Museum houses superb collections of Archeology, Natural History, Barbadian History and African and European Decorative Arts.

Wildey House
The headquarters of the Barbados National Trust is now Wildey House, a lovely old Georgian style mansion set on beautiful grounds which have undergone extensive renovation. It also houses a fine collection of antique furniture, which was bequeathed to it along with the house, by the Leacock family.

Tyrol Cot Heritage Village
Once the home of Sir Grantley Adams, this beautifully restored 1854 mansion, with its Barbadian antiques, is the centerpiece of an authentic "chattel house" village that features a mane of the oldest Synagogues in the Western hemisphere, originally built in 1654, now beautifully restored and in use once again by the Barbadian Jewish Community.

Morgan Lewis Sugar Mill
The largest and only complete sugar windmill surviving in the Caribbean. The wind driven machinery that ground the sugarcane in the 18th and 19th centuries is  still intact.
